Comparative utilization of phosphorus from sedimentary and igneous phosphate rock by major biotic components of aquatic ecosystem

چکیده
Two laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the amount of P utilization from two different types of sparingly soluble phosphate rock by aquatic biotic communities. The first type was Mussoorie Phosphate Rock or MPR (sedimentary in origin) and other was Purulia Phosphate Rock or PPR (igneous in origin). The two trials were with eight different treatment combinations. Among various treatments, fish and Chironomid larvae contributed to some extent in increasing the available sediment phosphate content which in turn increased the soluble reactive phosphate (SRP) of overlying water. Concentration of SRP of overlying water decreased in the treatment with zooplanktons. Depletion of SRP of overlying water due to uptake of orthophosphate by Chlorella was also observed. The sedimentary type phosphate rock proved to be more efficient in releasing phosphate than igneous

In order to investigate phosphorus efficiency (PE) of the barley genotypes in the presence of phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs), a greenhouse factorial experiment was conducted as a completely randomized blocks design and 3 replications with 10 Iranian and foreign barley genotypes. The effects of different phosphorus (P) fertilizer treatments including control (P0), phosphate rock (R...

Phosphate-rock or more precisely the phosphorites form the repository of phosphate supply for the fertilizer industry for manufacture of elemental phosphorus, phosphoric acid and innumerable alkali phosphates. It has now been universally agreed that phosphorites have some kind of sedimentary marine origin, the source of phosphorous being of organic and/or inorganic origin (1). The principal pho...

In order to investigate P acquisition efficiency (PACE) and P utilization efficiency (PUTE) of the corn in the presence of phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs), a factorial experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in the greenhouse. The factors were including P sources (tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and rock phosphate (RP)) and microbial inoculation (control, soluble P ...

Phosphorus deficiency affects around 80% of the acid soils of western Kenya, but fertilizer use is limited due to high prices. This paper explores the potential of local phosphate rocks (PR) as a remedy within the context on an integrated soil fertility management approach. A promising phosphate rock is Minjingu PR (MPR, Tanzania), a sedimentary/biogenic deposit which contains about 13% total P...
متن کاملThe potential for U-Pb Dating of Coprolites, Hartford Basin, Connecticut
There is a great need for more precise absolute ages for sedimentary rocks. We have been actively involved in developing techniques to directly date sedimentary rocks, rather than using associated igneous rocks, or using relative dating techniques. Sedimentary phosphate nodules (i.e. coprolites) are ideal candidates for absolute dating of sedimentary rocks. Phosphates occur commonly within the ...
